Last wedding of 2008

Friday, Jan 9, 2009Weddings

Our last wedding of 2008 was held on the beautiful Isle of Bute at the stunning venue of Mount Stuart. Below are a selection of my favourite images from the day. It was a great day for all the guests, some of which had travelled halfway across the globe to get there.

It was the first time I had visited the island and despite the low levels of light it was an absolute priviledge to be asked to document a wedding in such a stunning place.

B&G's: This client hired us on our unlimited hours package, so it was an early start/late finish for us. This meant that we could get some great 'setting the scene' images. I think it is important for us to set the scene of your wedding day especially if it is a destination wedding as the images are a great reminder of your wedding location.

Photographers: As the light was really low (we had about 6 hours of poor quality daylight) for this wedding we mainly used our 1.2 series lenses during the course of the day. I love shooting as wide as possible in all lighting conditions as the shallow depth of field really gives the images an extra quality, however, they are not easy to use but once mastered can produce very distinctive imagery.

Here are a selection of some my favourite images from the wedding.....I really hope you enjoy looking at them.

Land workers

Wednesday, Jan 7, 2009Personal

I covered some amazing weddings in 2008 and we are just finishing off the post production for our last two weddings of 2008 which we will post here very shortly!

I did however manage to continue my documentary work for a few clients.

I was asked to produce a series of environmental portraits of land workers in black and white. For those of you that are interested I really went back to basics and with just one camera and a 50mm lens tried to capture the character of the person I was documenting. It is very easy I think to intimidate your subjects at times when you have loads of gear. What ends up happening is a real lack of connection between you and your subject. For this project it was important that I had minimal equipment and trusted that I was able to build a good enough relationship with my subject for them to allow me to capture who they are.

None of my subjects were directed to smile, if they were happy and wanted to smile it was up to them. The most important aspect of the images was for the subject to be looking at the camera. This allows the viewer of the final image to become more involved with the image and the land worker.

What has this got to do with wedding photography? I think it is very important that I continue documentary work outside of weddings as I know this benefits my wedding work and it also inspires me to be creative during my weddings. I hope you enjoy the images.

Busy Time of the Year

Monday, Jan 5, 2009Weddings

The year has started off busy with many enquiries for dates in the coming months!

As photographers we are limited to the number of weddings we can cover and we are already over 50% booked for 2009 which is great news but unfortunately it means that we will be getting lots of calls from brides and grooms in the coming weeks who are disappointed that we are already booked for their date.

If you like our work and are interested in booking us, please contact us sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment!

Prices for 2009 start at £3800 for full day packages and £2500 for half day packages.
